The Aviator’s Den version of Espresso Pétillant is a citrus forward iced espresso drink topped with sparkling water; in the den we prefer Topo Chico. The coffee brewed for it can come from any pod machine or espresso machine. We are using our tried and true Breville Barista Touch Espresso Machine. This machine got use through Covid lockdowns and the year following with amazing coffee every morning.
In the den, we are picky about our coffee. There are many great mail order roasteries that ship as soon as the beans are roasted to perfection. We have two favorites, Three Ships Coffee from Virginia Beach, VA and for currently we are in love with Wonderstate Coffee from Viroqua, WI.
The espresso is brewed over a wide strip of lemon and orange peel. The heat from the espresso extracts the citrus oils. Once brewed, the shot (or double) is poured over a glass filled with ice and topped with Topo Chico. There you have it, refreshing and energetic, a coffee drink for the heat that may follow you into the fall. Check out the video here.
